Royalton Blue Waters, Montego Bay

Kohinoor Weddings

Indian weddings atRoyalton Blue Waters

Montego Bay, Jamaica

The one Jamaica resort where Royalton sells its South Asian wedding collection, Kohinoor. It is a family all-inclusive a short drive from Montego Bay’s airport, back open after Hurricane Melissa, and its wedding office writes out the haldi, the mehndi and sangeet, the ceremony and the reception as one plan rather than leaving you to invent it.

Why Couples Choose It

What this resort actually commits to

A South Asian collection written for this resort

Royalton’s Kohinoor brochure names Blue Waters as its Jamaica venue and sets out the whole sequence: a welcome cocktail, a haldi or pithi on the beach, a mehndi and sangeet party with dinner and a henna artist, a ceremony with jaimala under a draped four-post structure with sound for the priest, and a private reception. A specialised South Asian wedding consultant is part of it.

An Indian menu on paper, not a promise

The Kohinoor menus are written dish by dish: kulcha and pav bhaji at breakfast, samosa, pakora and tikka for the cocktail hour, a fully vegetarian lunch, and dal makhani, paneer and biryani at dinner, served buffet or family style. You choose from a list the resort has already written, rather than describing your food from scratch.

A Hindu priest on the resort’s own officiant list

Royalton’s wedding-services list for its Montego Bay resorts names a Hindu priest among its officiants. The ceremony does not depend on flying someone in. Whether your family pandit can lead it instead is one of the things we confirm.

South Asian specialists, not a general wedding desk

South Asian weddings are planned with Royalton’s South Asian Wedding Specialists, who begin planning eight to ten months before the date. An on-site wedding coordinator then meets you at the resort and runs the day. You know from the start who owns which part.

Know This Before You Fall In Love

The published limits

Every venue has them. Most planners let you discover them at contract. We would rather you weighed them now, while changing your mind is free.

  • Catering is in-house only. Outside food and drink cannot be brought in, so a caterer from home is not an option.
  • Outside décor companies and florists are not permitted, and nothing can be shipped to the hotel. Anything of your own travels in your luggage, and arches, draping and hanging décor from home are not allowed.
  • Your own photographer, videographer, DJ or hair and makeup artist pays a vendor fee per service, per day. It is waived only if they stay at the resort for your group’s minimum stay. Drones flown by outside photographers are not allowed.
  • Fire-related items of any kind cannot be brought from home. They must come through the resort’s approved vendors, and the wedding office decides which locations allow them. That is the rule the havan has to work within.
  • Several of the Kohinoor venues are in the adults-only Hideaway section, where children may attend the ceremony only.
  • Outdoor private receptions end at 10:30pm. The ballroom runs to 11pm.
  • For a legal ceremony, the couple and two witnesses must arrive three days before the wedding, counting the day of arrival.

One thing in its favour that is easy to miss: this resort takes all ages. Several highly rated properties in the same bracket are adults-only, which quietly rules them out for a wedding that travels with grandparents and small children in the same room block.

Before You Commit

What we get in writing for you

These are the questions that decide whether a wedding works at a property, and the answers change by resort and sometimes by venue within one resort. We put them to the wedding office and get them confirmed before you sign anything.

  • The havan, in writing and by venue. Fire items have to come from the resort’s own vendors, and permission depends on the location.
  • The baraat. Nothing in the Kohinoor collection mentions a procession, a horse or dhol, so we get it confirmed rather than let you assume it.
  • Whether Jain, halal or no-onion-no-garlic menus can be prepared from the Kohinoor menus.
  • Whether children can attend a reception in the ballroom, which is listed under the adults-only Hideaway.
  • Whether your own pandit is treated as an outside vendor.
  • Your room block terms, which are negotiated and not published.

Planning is free, and it stays free. We are paid by the resort on your guests' room block, which is why we can afford to tell you when a venue is wrong for you.
