Dulha & Dulhan
Indian weddings atDreams Riviera Cancún
Puerto Morelos, Mexico
A family all-inclusive on the beach at Puerto Morelos, between Cancún and Playa del Carmen. It is one of the Dreams resorts that sells Hyatt’s Dulha & Dulhan South Asian package, so the sangeet, the baraat and the mandap are written into the offer rather than explained to the resort from scratch.
Why Couples Choose It
What this resort actually commits to
Dulha & Dulhan is sold here
Hyatt lists Dreams Riviera Cancún among the resorts offering its South Asian wedding package. The package is built as a run of events: a welcome cocktail party, a sangeet and mehndi, the baraat and the ceremony.
The baraat is a named event
The package gives the baraat its own place in the schedule, with your on-site coordinator organising and directing the processional and the resort offering options for the groom’s entrance.
Coordinators certified in South Asian weddings
Hyatt says the wedding managers at participating resorts are certified South Asian Wedding Specialists who work with local vendors and chefs, and the reception buffet is prepared by a chef who specialises in Indian cuisine, vegetarian dishes first.
A mandap, and a ballroom to fall back on
The ceremony includes a decorated mandap. The resort has six wedding locations, from the beach to an elegant ballroom, so an outdoor event has somewhere to go if the weather turns.
Know This Before You Fall In Love
The published limits
Every venue has them. Most planners let you discover them at contract. We would rather you weighed them now, while changing your mind is free.
- The South Asian package is only sold with a room block, and a minimum applies.
- Weddings must be booked at least a year ahead unless the coordinator approves, and there is a cancellation penalty once a date is held.
- Outside photographers, videographers, DJs and bands are to be arranged with the wedding coordinator. Any outside-vendor fee is not published, get it in writing.
- Open flame for a havan is not mentioned anywhere the resort or Hyatt publishes. Not published, get it in writing.
- The music end time for outdoor events is not published by the resort. Not published, get it in writing.
One thing in its favour that is easy to miss: this resort takes all ages. Several highly rated properties in the same bracket are adults-only, which quietly rules them out for a wedding that travels with grandparents and small children in the same room block.
Before You Commit
What we get in writing for you
These are the questions that decide whether a wedding works at a property, and the answers change by resort and sometimes by venue within one resort. We put them to the wedding office and get them confirmed before you sign anything.
- The havan, in writing and by venue: whether a fire kund and ghee are allowed, and where.
- The baraat: the route, dhol players, and whether a horse can be arranged.
- Whether an outside Indian caterer may be brought in, since the package is built around the in-house kitchen.
- The music curfew for each outdoor venue, and how late the ballroom can run.
- Your room block terms, which are negotiated and not published.
Planning is free, and it stays free. We are paid by the resort on your guests' room block, which is why we can afford to tell you when a venue is wrong for you.
