Mahal
Indian weddings atMoon Palace The Grand Cancún
Cancún, Mexico
The newer half of the Moon Palace complex south of Cancún, about ten minutes from the airport by Palace’s own figure. It sells the same Mahal South Asian collection as its sister resort next door, and it has the ballroom space that Moon Palace Cancún lacks, which is why couples planning a big seated reception look here first.
Why Couples Choose It
What this resort actually commits to
Mahal is sold here, havan included
Palace states its Mahal South Asian packages are available at all Moon Palace resorts in Mexico, with specialised chefs and venues for every celebration. The ceremony setup lists a havan. That is a catalogue item, not a written fire permission, and we treat the two differently.
A baraat set with a ghodi on the package list
The larger Mahal packages list a baraat set with a dhol, a ghodi horse, entrance transportation and sound. The smallest includes the dhol and the transport but no horse. Palace adds that inclusions may vary by property, so the horse is a question we settle before you choose.
Ballrooms big enough for the whole guest list
The Grand Ballroom and an outdoor terrace are each built for a large seated reception, a second ballroom takes a mid-sized event, and the Moon Palace Arena sits on the same complex. A mehndi, a sangeet and a reception do not have to share a room.
An Indian kitchen inside the brand
Palace names a South Asian chef for the programme and publishes set South Asian menus alongside custom ones, so the food starts from a menu built for these weddings rather than a buffet adapted on the day.
Know This Before You Fall In Love
The published limits
Every venue has them. Most planners let you discover them at contract. We would rather you weighed them now, while changing your mind is free.
- Décor, flowers, cakes, furniture, tents and audio-visual come only from Palace’s own production company. Every other outside supplier pays a vendor fee per supplier, per day and per service, and must follow Palace’s external supplier rules.
- Private wedding events run on a single day between 10am and 10pm. Going past 10pm costs extra and depends on the hotel’s availability, which matters for a sangeet.
- Guests staying off the resort are capped as a share of the guest list and need day passes, so plan on nearly everyone staying here.
- Open flame is not covered by any published rule. The havan is listed as a supply; where it may burn, and with what, is not published, so get it in writing.
- An outside Indian caterer is documented here in practice, at a real wedding in 2025, but Palace publishes no outside-catering policy. Not published, get it in writing.
One thing in its favour that is easy to miss: this resort takes all ages. Several highly rated properties in the same bracket are adults-only, which quietly rules them out for a wedding that travels with grandparents and small children in the same room block.
Before You Commit
What we get in writing for you
These are the questions that decide whether a wedding works at a property, and the answers change by resort and sometimes by venue within one resort. We put them to the wedding office and get them confirmed before you sign anything.
- The havan, in writing: which venues allow the flame, and whether ghee and a family kund are permitted.
- Whether the ghodi horse is available at The Grand itself, since package inclusions vary by property.
- Access terms for an outside Indian caterer, including the fee, before anyone is quoted.
- Jain, halal and no-onion-no-garlic menus, none of which are addressed in published material.
Planning is free, and it stays free. We are paid by the resort on your guests' room block, which is why we can afford to tell you when a venue is wrong for you.
