Pyaar

Indian weddings atParadisus Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Mexico

A family all-inclusive by Meliá at Playa del Carmen, with the adults-only Paradisus La Perla beside it. It is one of the Paradisus resorts that sells Pyaar, Meliá’s three-day South Asian wedding collection, which writes the haldi or pithi, the mehndi and sangeet, the ceremony and the reception into the offer.

Why Couples Choose It

What this resort actually commits to

Pyaar, a three-day South Asian collection

Meliá’s Pyaar Wedding Collection is built as three days of private events: a vatna, haldi, maiyaan or pithi, a mehndi and sangeet party, the wedding ceremony and the reception, with venues set aside for the rituals. Paradisus Playa del Carmen is on its list of resorts.

One South Asian wedding a day

Meliá says each resort hosts only one South Asian wedding per day, never at the same time or in the same venue, so your family is not sharing the property with another baraat.

Specialists trained in South Asian weddings

The Romance Specialists are trained in South Asian traditions, rituals and etiquette, and work with decorators and providers who specialise in South Asian weddings. Menus are prepared by specialised chefs to reflect your culture, and DJs, dhol players and live performers can be arranged.

Built for three generations

The resort offers family concierge services, kids’ clubs and adult-only areas, and venues run from oceanfront terraces to ballrooms with backup plans for the weather.

Know This Before You Fall In Love

The published limits

Every venue has them. Most planners let you discover them at contract. We would rather you weighed them now, while changing your mind is free.

  • Most of your guests must stay at the host resort under a group contract, and guests staying elsewhere need a Full Wedding Pass, charged per person per day.
  • Events that run past 11:00 p.m. carry an extra charge per person per hour. During turtle season, May to November, no beach events are allowed after 7:00 p.m.
  • Outside vendors are possible: Meliá says resort security policies apply and extra charges may be incurred. The amounts are not published, get them in writing.
  • Specialty cuisines and personalised menus can cost extra. Whether an outside Indian caterer may be brought in is not published, get it in writing.
  • Open flame for a havan is not mentioned in the Pyaar brochure. Not published, get it in writing.

One thing in its favour that is easy to miss: this resort takes all ages. Several highly rated properties in the same bracket are adults-only, which quietly rules them out for a wedding that travels with grandparents and small children in the same room block.

Before You Commit

What we get in writing for you

These are the questions that decide whether a wedding works at a property, and the answers change by resort and sometimes by venue within one resort. We put them to the wedding office and get them confirmed before you sign anything.

  • The havan, in writing and by venue: whether a fire kund and ghee are allowed.
  • The baraat: the route, dhol players, and whether a horse can be arranged.
  • What the specialised chefs will cook, and whether Jain, halal or no-onion-no-garlic menus can be certified.
  • The outside-vendor charge for each photographer, decorator or DJ you bring.
  • Your room block terms and the Full Wedding Pass, which are negotiated and quoted, not published here.

Planning is free, and it stays free. We are paid by the resort on your guests' room block, which is why we can afford to tell you when a venue is wrong for you.
