Best Resorts for Indian Weddings in Mexico & the Dominican Republic

Nine resorts, ranked on what each one publishes about the things a South Asian wedding needs.

Which are the best resorts for Indian weddings in Mexico and the Dominican Republic? Most lists answer with photographs. This one answers with the questions that decide a South Asian wedding: can the resort host the fire ceremony, can its kitchen cook your food, is there a plan for the baraat, how late can the sangeet run, and where does everyone go if it rains. We ranked the nine resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic that we have profiled by how many of those questions each one answers in its own published material.

Every resort here is one we have profiled, and a resort only gets a profile once it passes our test for hosting South Asian weddings. We do not print prices, because they change with your date and your guest list.

How We Ranked Them

Six criteria, each one a published fact

A resort scores a point for each criterion its own website, brochure or wedding guide meets. Each resort scores out of six, ties share a rank, and resorts with the same score are listed by name.

  1. 1South Asian programme. The resort sells a South Asian wedding programme or service of its own, by name, at this property.
  2. 2Fire ceremony provided for. The resort’s own material makes room for the fire ceremony: it supplies a havan, sets aside space for the havan kund, or publishes how fire items are provided. None of these is a written permission to light the fire, and we still get that by venue.
  3. 3Indian kitchen. Indian food from the resort’s own kitchen is in writing: a chef who specialises in Indian cuisine, a written Indian menu, or an Indian restaurant on the property.
  4. 4Baraat provided for. The baraat appears in the resort’s own material: as a named event, with a horse, or with a place or plan for the procession.
  5. 5Published music end time. The resort publishes when music and events must end, so a sangeet can be planned against a real limit.
  6. 6Indoor space for the weather. The resort publishes indoor space that can take an event if the weather turns: a ballroom, a convention centre or a written rain backup.

What the ranking is not: a verdict on beauty, service or value. A missing point means the resort does not publish that fact. It does not mean the answer is no. A resort that publishes less can still be the right one for you, and that is why each entry lists what we would get in writing.

  • Baraat provided for: The baraat collection includes a ghodi horse kept on the property, a dhol player and a cart with proper audio.
  • Published music end time: Complimentary event hours run to 10pm, with a paid extension available to midnight.
  • Indoor space for the weather: Backup locations in case of rain are a written inclusion.

Weigh this first: The largest single banquet room is modest for an estate this size, so a large seated reception needs care over which space you take.

  • South Asian programme: Royalton publishes a Kohinoor book for Bávaro itself, with two South Asian packages.
  • Fire ceremony provided for: Fire items are rented through the resort’s approved vendors, and the wedding consultant decides which locations allow them. The havan is not named.
  • Indian kitchen: The Kohinoor book includes a pick-and-choose Indian menu, from aloo kulcha to chana masala.
  • Baraat provided for: Not published. We get it in writing for you.
  • Published music end time: Outdoor events end at 11pm; the ballroom can run until 2am for an extra charge.
  • Indoor space for the weather: The ballroom can take a sangeet or a reception, and run late.

Weigh this first: Catering is in-house only, outside décor companies and florists are not permitted, and your own photographer or DJ pays a vendor fee per service, per day, unless they stay the required minimum nights.

Weigh this first: Less is committed in writing here than at any other resort on this list. The mandap and the fire ritual appear in marketing, which we treat as a description rather than a permission.

Weigh this first: Open flame, an outside caterer and the baraat are all unpublished, and the resort is around an hour by road from Cancún airport.

Indian weddings at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya

The best resort depends on your wedding

A score counts published facts. Your shortlist should start from the one thing your wedding cannot do without. The same facts, read that way:

  • A Hindu ceremony with a havan. Moon Palace Cancún supplies the havan in its Mahal collection, Grand Bávaro Princess sets aside space for the kund, and Royalton Bávaro publishes how fire items are provided. Permission to light the fire is still confirmed by venue at all three.
  • A baraat on a horse. Moon Palace Cancún is the resort here that keeps a horse on the property for it. Dreams Playa Mujeres and Dreams Macao Beach list the baraat as a named event.
  • Four or five events with no room clashes. Hard Rock Riviera Maya has several ballrooms each large enough for a seated dinner, and Dreams Playa Mujeres' ballroom divides into three with two more rooms beside it.
  • Indian food between the events, not only at them. Grand Palladium Punta Cana has Bhogali, an Indian restaurant, in the complex, and Grand Bávaro Princess lists an Indian restaurant among its own.
  • Your own décor team or DJ from home. Hard Rock Punta Cana only admits outside vendors who travel from your own country, so it suits a couple who already have their team. Royalton Bávaro does not admit outside décor companies at all.
  • The fewest unknowns. Grand Velas Riviera Maya commits the least in writing, which suits a couple who want bespoke handling and are happy to agree the details one by one. Royalton Bávaro publishes its rules in full.
